Primary Care Provider Vaccine Distribution Informational Webinar Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 5:30 pm
Message from our Suffolk County Health Commissioner,
Gregson H. Pigott, MD, MPH
As healthcare and public health workers on the front lines, we have witnessed firsthand the devastation COVID-19 has caused in our communities over the past year. More recently, however, we have also seen the development of vaccines that are proving their ability to reverse the tide and drive down positivity rates, hospitalizations, and deaths across the country. That is why I write to you today, regarding a new initiative launched by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS).
In order to fully realize the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines, with the goal of returning to pre-pandemic life, it is critical to achieve community immunity. Under current circumstances, that means ensuring widespread access to vaccines and boosting confidence in vaccines among people experiencing vaccine hesitancy. Therefore, increasing the availability of vaccines to trusted community primary care providers and medical offices, such as yours, presents a significant opportunity for more equitable access. Providing vaccinations at such facilities will offer residents a safe, effective, and convenient way to protect themselves and others.
As such, SCDHS has developed the attached guidance document (“COVID-19 Vaccination Distribution Guidance for Primary Care Providers”) in order to partner with and supply vaccines directly to providers. The guidance outlines a step-by-step process for providers to follow, including registering with New York State’s COVID-19 Vaccination Program and receiving doses from SCDHS’ Pharmacy. If you are interested in administering COVID-19 vaccines, please review and follow the guidance set forth in the attached document.
We understand you may also have questions about the vaccines and the requirements for storing, handling, and administering them. An informational webinar will be hosted via Zoom on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 5:30 pm. You may find the invitation for the event below.
Thank you for everything you do to keep Suffolk County’s residents healthy during these trying times.
Sincerely, Gregson H. Pigott, MD, MPH
